Using The Open as an apparel showcase

Not only did The Open at Troon serve up one of the best final day’s play in recent years, it also provided an apparel showcase. We take a quick look at what some of the top players were wearing for the championship.

Adidas

US Open Champion Dustin Johnson took to the course wearing the climacool performance polo, with climacool technology for zonal cooling, throughout the week. He paired the polos with the ultimate pant, which features a stretch waistband with silicone gripper, moisture-wicking and water resistant stretch fabrication, and snag-free micromesh pockets, and TOUR360 BOOST footwear. The world’s #1 player, Jason Day, sported green and blue tones wearing the climacool 3-Stripes polos and climacool blocked print polos throughout the tournament. He also wore the TOUR360 BOA BOOST footwear.

PING

At The Open Louis Oosthuizen wore some of the latest products from PING apparel’s S/S16 collection.

Callaway

Danny Willett sported Callaway Apparel’s new Autumn Winter 16 Collection at this year’s Open and there was good reason behind it. Willett and the apparel team have been wearing Callaway’s S/S 16 collection since the season kicked off in Dubai, so this was the perfect opportunity to showcase to the world what colours, styles and fabrics the brand is offering this A/W.

Over the next couple of months Pros will start receiving their Autumn Winter 16 drops – it should be a great talking point with customers for those stocking Callaway’s AW16 range to know that the Masters champ has been seen wearing it.

Willett was seen on Wednesday during The Open as being the first ever to sport Callaway’s new AW16 Stripe Pull-Over which has completely sold through and is set to be a strong seller on course this coming A/W. His traditional style of tailored white trousers and a magnetic blue merino sweater was one of the best stand-out outfits of the day.

Willett also tweeted to his 99k twitter followers his Callaway outfit details for The Open, which is another way to support those Pros who are about to start stocking the product. Sunday’s outfit of a new chest stripe merino mix sweater was getting a fair bit of attention on twitter with punters tweeting Willett asking where they can buy his sweater.

Willett will be competing at the Olympics and Marketing Manager Emma Wells-Jones will be working with him in the lead up to the tournament providing him with Callaway’s preferred outfit ideas and styles that will support the sell-through for the Pro and demonstrate the new looks andpieces for the upcoming season. Wells-Jones says he was thrilled to receive the new AW16 collection and replied with a ‘Spot on…looks great’ text when his scripting was sent through to him.

Nike

Rory McIllroy wore a Nike Classic 99 hat for all four days and generally favoured greys and darker colours, such as the MM Fly Swing Knit Stipe Alpha polo in black and the Nike Modern Tech Woven pant that he wore on the Sunday. Paul Casey opted for a splash of more colour, such as the Nike Mobility Stripe polo in volt/wolf grey that he wore on the Friday.
